2 months have passed since the last post — a lot of time for plenty of highs and lows, training and much more.
What happened in the past 8 weeks?
First, 2 weeks of recovery from Challenge Roth — including a relay ride leg at Heidelbergman and a 342km cycling marathon. Admittedly not exactly recovery in the traditional sense, but it was fun.
Right after that it was back into structured training as preparation for Ironman Hawaii.
The first 4 weeks were very base-heavy with lots of long sessions, the last 3 weeks equally long but with lots of race-specific work. And with that, preparation is essentially done — last week was the week of “the lasts”:
- the last long run
- the last long bike session
- the last swim in the outdoor pool
- the last long race-specific brick session
Overall preparation went very well — I was able to complete all sessions, though not always as planned, since body and mind are already pretty beaten up and really need recovery time. Mentally the last few weeks have been very tough — I’m very glad all of this will soon be over. Thankfully I’m already on the mend and the anticipation is growing day by day. Next week it all kicks off, and at some point you’re in the water in the morning and hear a cannon shot…
More soon, stay tuned.
