The first leg of my US trip takes me straight into the Nevada desert, to the gambler’s paradise of Las Vegas. Here are a few impressions:
On training:
Short version: more bad than good — things aren’t really flowing anymore.
The schedule this year was pretty packed, it’s cost a lot of energy that I’m now missing. Well, the next two weeks will pass somehow too, and then it’s time for a break.
The last few weeks I’ve been focusing on base training — there just wasn’t room for more. Swimming is actually going the best right now, cycling is already noticeably harder, and running form has almost completely vanished. The last long runs were terrible by my standards — both in terms of times and how they felt…
Training here in Vegas is surprisingly manageable — half an hour and you’re away from the worst traffic, and after an hour you’re in a national park with nothing going on:
Running on the treadmill works too — deadly boring but still better than dealing with the traffic outside. Swimming in the hotel pool is fine as well.
