Stacking miles was the plan this week, in all disciplines and always plenty of them …

Not super exciting, but it’s delivering the hoped-for progress. My longest run is now up to 2:20h. It felt terrible — technically beyond bad — but the result was still satisfying. I can’t say exactly why; possibly it was the hydration vest I was carrying. It sits pretty well and nothing wobbles, but running with it is still a bit unfamiliar. Why I had it with me I won’t reveal just yet — that’ll get its own post at some point.

On the bike it’s progressing too — at least I’m no longer hitting a wall after 3h (fasted), but rather well past 4h. That’s how it should be … In swimming I had to pay a bit of a price this week for the increased volume on the bike and on foot — things didn’t flow quite as well there.

  • Monday: wrapping up a nice training block with 2.5h cycling and in the evening a 1.5h run
  • Tuesday: strength training and an aerobic swim session
  • Wednesday: well-deserved rest day
  • Thursday: 1h easy run and 1.5h in the pool
  • Friday: 2:20h long run
  • Saturday: strength training and aerobic swim session
  • Sunday: 5h cycling plus 0.5h brick run

I also have a first to report: for the first time in my life I destroyed a water bottle. It slipped out of the saddle-mounted bottle cage, hit the road, and shattered completely! Not bad — all other bottles had survived that before. Just not this one … oh well …
