After a lot of deliberation I had basically decided to ride my Kuota again this season. The bike already has three years and a lot of kilometers on it, plus a crack in the paint at the seat tube/seat stay junction since a crash (whether it’s just the paint or the frame itself is hard to say).

I just couldn’t make up my mind whether and which bike to get. The decision was especially tough because there are very few time trial bikes that are fully compatible with Shimano Di2. Once you’ve ridden Di2, you don’t give it up willingly…

So the field was pretty narrow. The candidates were:

  • Felt DA 2011 — unfortunately unavailable in Germany / already sold out
  • Scott Plasma 3 — Di2-compatible only in a version for pro cyclists, not available to the general public
  • Giant Trinity Advanced SL — aesthetics leave something to be desired
  • Cervelo P4 — not really Di2-compatible
  • Trek SpeedConcept

In the end I went with the Trek SpeedConcept, for several good reasons. I ordered it in mid-April, and by the end of April the frame was already in my hands — big kudos to Trek for the fast delivery.

I built the bike myself, and today it’s ready to ride. The build process went pretty smoothly; Trek put a lot of thought into the details and it shows.
